Subject: Please Recognize the Duquesne Secular Society
Dear Mr. Dougherty,
I am writing in support of the proposed Duquesne Secular Society. Nonreligious people make up 15 percent of the national population. By denying the group equal access, you are teaching your students that 15 percent of the population are lesser citizens and should not have the same rights as any other group that professes religious opinions. As a modern university, you should welcome the secular students to the market place of ideas and promote open and honest discussions. You should also want to support the wellbeing of all your students, including the nontheistic ones. The Duquesne Secular Society would provide a safe space for people to explore their religious views and opinions. Please reconsider Duquesne Secular Society’s application. Thank you.
